Prayer: Passionate Spirituality #20080717-
Most Christians claim to follow the New Testament model in all things — including congregational worship. One of the things the early church did was praying together for the work. Is it any wonder that they were a group infused with spiritual passion? Many of us today are uncomfortable with such prayer, so we put all thoughts of it aside. Is it any wonder that so many of us lack spiritual passion?

God's Kind of Spirituality #20080703-
One of the most important aspects of congregational health is spiritual passion as experienced by everyone in the congregation. Passion is liveliness and everyone likes being in it's presence. When new people come into a group of people with passion, they tend to pick up on it and feel alive too. Passion attracts people, and consequently leads to congregational growth.

Leading by Serving #20080522-
Psychologists, and more recently, brain scientists tell us the only way to learn empathy is by experiencing it from others. The Bible tells us that service is learned in the same limited way. We learn to serve by being served. That is most probably why Jesus told his disciples to de emphasize leading and lording in their minds, focusing instead on serving.

Have you been to the mall lately? If so, you probably saw lots of teens there. Did you notice that they dress differently than adults, wear their hair differently, talk differently, listen to different music, etc.? Why is that? Why do the younger people in our culture seem so separated from the adults? This phenomenon is relatively new in human history. And there are still many cultures today that include children and teens into adult culture. Is this a good thing or bad? How does it affect the Church and the faith development of church children?

Spiritual Gifts Today #20080313-
God tells us clearly that he gives us spiritual gifts with which to accomplish the work of the Church. Yet many Christians shy away from the entire subject. Why? Because nearly everything about the use of these gifts is difficult. It's hard to figure out what our gift is, how to use it to the benefit of the congregation rather than self, how not to be overcome with self-importance, etc. Still, the only way we will ever accomplish our mission as members of the Body of Christ is to understand our gift!
