General Information
If you are not familiar with the Feast of Tabernacles and would like to know more about this observance, click here.
Where you attend the Feast is an important decision. The Feast of Tabernacles, hosted this year in Park City, Utah will be different. You need to know how it will be different so you can make the best choice.
Not a Convention - A Family Retreat
To do the Work God has given us, we need to support others of like belief and be supported by them. We believe that a scattered Church can benefit from a Festival that concentrates on relationships and fellowship - not only the adults but the children and teens also. We hope to provide a place for those who are seeking to build their spiritual networks and experience deeper friendships with others at the Feast, including those who are younger and just beginning to develop their spiritual network.
In talking to a number of single people and other young adults, the need to include everyone becomes important. Families don't leave people behind. At Park City we don't need to leave anyone behind either.
To accomplish these goals, we have organized this site to create more opportunities for connecting, and we have structured it to feel more like a family retreat than a convention. Here are some of the features of this initiative:
- There is a hospitality room for our exclusive use. We can go there to meet and connect with others.
- We can eat together. We have a morning breakfast bar and a group luncheon on site.
- The day starts with a gathering time when we can all check in and get oriented to the day's events and worship God with music and prayer.
- We have a good selection of activities that families or individuals can enjoy together.
Support for Our Families, Children, Teens and Young Adults
Instead of adding some activities or lessons for those who are younger, we have incorporated their needs into the fabric of this Festival. The Park City Festival was designed to take care of their needs as well as those of the adults from the beginning rather than as add-on's. Consider these family and youth friendly features:
- Instead of designating our activities as "Youth" or "Adult" we have planned activities that vary from the sedate to the challenging. (See our Activity Calendar for more information.)
- Most of our educational efforts at this Festival will be experiential and interactive. These styles of learning promote relationships much more that simply sitting in services, and they appeal to those who are younger. (See our Educational Program for more information.)
- By asking everyone to get involved in the production of the Feast, younger people will have many opportunities to express and learn leadership and they will have a real, responsible place in the production of the Festival, every day.
- The opening event will not only provide orientation but a lively mixer to help break the ice and help us all get to know each other right from the beginning.
- We will including young people in our thinking when we select seminar topics and presenters.
- Selecting music with everyone in mind and providing a balanced mix of music.
- Focusing on Christian Living, and observing the Feast rather than doctrine.
Worshipping God Actively
The best way to learn is by doing.
- While we will have traditional Bible studies and worship services on the Holy Days and Sabbath, the other days will be dedicated to worshipping God more actively. James tells us that pure religion is to take care of those who are disadvantaged. We will do this in Park City.
- A number of learning experiences and seminars will be available for those who want to learn spiritual skills they can use to improve themselves, their relationships, their families, their congregations and their communities.
- Choice will be a part of this Festival as well, since a number of presentations will be running simultaneously. To see a more detailed picture of this concept please see our Activity Calendar.
- Community involvement will be a significant part of this festival.
- Each day that we don’t have traditional services we will begin with a daily gathering, where we will sing, pray and orient ourselves to the activities of the day.
- Just as people bring monetary offerings to the Feast, we encourage everyone to offer their time and talents to make this Feast a success. Be thinking about the Gift God has given you and how you might use it to enrich others at the Feast. We always feel more fulfilled and happier when we are helping or enriching others.
- God provides each of us with spiritual gifts and understanding through His Holy Spirit. Using those gifts through practice becomes our responsibility, as we shouldn't expect God to magically bestow skills upon us at our resurrection. Consider this a time to step out of our comfort zone, learn from mistakes, growing in wisdom and knowledge toward the perfection God has in mind for each of us. There will be opportunities to use and develop one's gifts at this site.
Location, Location, Location
Besides all the spiritual benefits, here are a few other reasons why Park City is an excellent Festival destination:
- The Prospector Square Lodge is an excellent conference center with a large state-of-the-art auditorium
- The Salt Lake City Airport (a Delta hub) is only 35 miles away
- There are many youth-oriented attractions
- Shopping and restaurants abound
- Housing prices are less than in many other mountain resort areas
- The elevation at the conference center is approximately 6300 feet, which is much lower than many mountain resorts. This means more oxygen and warmer temperatures than higher elevations.
Is This the Right Festival Site for You and Your Family?
People who find the above mentioned items valuable will probably like Park City, but there is more. This is a start up Festival. We need people who:
- Have a pioneering spirit
- Have the courage to move out of their comfort zone
- Are willing to take action to provide something better for themselves and their families
- Want a more involving, inclusive Feast
- Who are seeking spiritual renewal
- Have a vision of how much better the Feast could be for the Church, families, and individuals
